Grafton
66th Commemoration Ceremony of Hiroshima-Nagasaki.

6:00 pm: Walk from Grafton Town Square to Peace Pagoda (4.3 miles).
8:30 pm: Ceremonial Lighting of Lanterns.  Interfaith Program of Peace.  Taiko Drummers.

Saturday, August 6

Albany
Reading of John Hersey’s book, Hiroshima, in Townsend Park in Albany starting at 11am (anticipated end before 3pm).  The event is free and open to the public and the public is encouraged to join in the reading.  Townsend Park is the triangle where Central Ave. converges with Washington Ave., adjacent to Henry Johnson Blvd. (across from the Social Justice Center).  Those interested in reading can sign up to participate when they arrive.   This event is co-sponsored by Pine Hills Neighbors for Peace, the Tom Paine Chapter Veterans for Peace, and Upper Hudson Peace Action.  Logistics & planning by the Poetry Motel Foundation.  For information call Dan Wilcox, 482-0262.

Hiroshima/Nagasaki Memorial Event, Central Park Rose Garden 4pm.  Our program includes a march through the park ending at the new peace pole.  Wear white the color of mourning in Japan.  Our program is 4 pm, Sat. Aug. 6, and we will meet at the Rose Garden in Central Park and proceed to the new peace pole and to the lake.  The program will include music, poetry, peace cranes, etc.  There will be free will donations to help Japanese people affected by the Fukushima nuclear plant failure.  Bring banners, petitions, props, readings.  Sponsor: Schenectady Neighbors for Peace.  For more information:  elaineklein@hotmail.com
