History:
This July, a few Guilderland residents came together to form Guilderland
Neighbors for Peace. We were inspired by other local peace organizations,
such as Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace, Veterans For Peace, and Women Against
War.
We number around 25 people thus
far. Our only broad decision has been to be inclusive and to stress the
positive goals of working toward peace and justice. We are in the process of
developing our mission and programs, and we encourage other Guilderland
residents to join us.
In addition to joining Upper
Hudson Peace Action, we have merged with Guilderland Families for Peace, a
behind-the-scenes group that has promoted peace and social justice for
several years through its scholarships and grants for high school students
and teachers.
Activities
Monthly Vigil for Peace
A dedicated group
of people have been meeting every third Wednesday of the month during rush
hour at the northeast (Keybank) corner of Routes 155 and 20. The positive
response from commuters has been tremendous! Several new members have joined
as a result of passing by our vigil. Bring signs and join us from 5:00 to
6:00 p.m.
Film Series
We are working on a film series and plan to show films of political interest
at the library and other community spaces. Check our website for details.
