Schenectady Neighbors for Peace Activity Report June 2008
For June, our key events included:
- Doing peace crafts and tabling at Kids' Day. The main project focused on
practicing peace at home so that it extends beyond that into the larger
world.
- Cost of the War Banner Display at Farmer's Market, and at two Friday
vigils.
- Tabling / craft sales at the Holly Near concert by the 8th Step at
Proctors.
- Marching in the Scotia Memorial Day Parade (very positive public
response - personal contact and questions to Jim Tedisco regarding Military
Toxins Law).
- Counter-recruitment meeting with the head of the Guidance Dept. at
Schenectady High School, who is now working on developing materials for
showing alternatives to the military and more student options. A follow-up
meeting is planned, and possibly some branching out to other local high
schools.
- Farmers' Market tabling/display of banners/craft sales fundraiser - made
profits/reached people. Fate for the continuation of this project is
unknown.
- Ongoing weekly vigils
- Successful, productive monthly meeting with key focus on planning
Hiroshima/Nagasaki memorial
