GUILDERLAND NEIGHBORS FOR PEACE

MINUTES FROM MEETING   SEPTEMBER 28TH
GUILDERLAND LIBRARY- NORMANSKIL ROOM

 Attendance : Patty D. Schardt, Barbara and Steve Wickahm, Janyce Lukowski, Mark Roberts, David Easter, John Baideme, Janet Rothacker, Tara Blau, Chris Marshall, Karen Anderson, Michele Maserjian.

-Introductions

 -David Easter- from Upper Hudson Peace Action. Brief discussion of what is happening in other communities. Groups recently started in Schenectady, Troy, and Southern Rensselear.  GNFP is on website at www.peaceact.net/guilderlandneighbors.htm.

David will post our minutes if sent to him. Patty volunteered to take minutes at meetings.

-Holly Near concert discussed by Karen Anderson. Show on Friday October 6th at St. Rose, St. Joseph’s Hall, 985 Western Ave. at 8pm.  Tickets at door are $20. Holly is an antiwar activist and performer.

-Discussed the weekly vigil. Group voted keep the corner of 155/20 and will change time to -5:00-6:00. Group asked to think about what to do when it gets darker for lighting and better signs for inclement weather.

 Marketing

 -Janet Rothacker will contact high school regarding clubs which may let us come speak and try to get some high school students to vigil/write article in school paper.

-Patty Schardt will work on getting copies/producing small sheet to advertise on mailboxes/community spots. Get assist from Liz or Chris on this.

-Michelle Maserjian has some DVD’s which small group (Barb, Steve, and Janyce) have volunteered to watch and review. We will start with American Black Out (re: voting). Others to consider: Yes Sir, No Sir, Peace Propaganda, and the Promised Land, Ground Truth. Michelle will contact library to see if we can have a movie night there/advertise. Michelle agreed to be a moderator for discussion following movie. Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace has a monthly movie night with good results. (BethlehemforPeace.org)

-Mission Statement: All to consider a mission statement to review for next meeting. Steve will set up a web based discussion site to submit ideas and email us regarding this.

-Liz Allen- will be asked to follow up regarding Guilderland Families for Peace- inform group of our role with them at next meeting.

-Next meeting scheduled for October 23rd at Guilderland Library. Group also looking for alternative site which would accommodate us the same night each month.
