GUILDERLAND NEIGHBORS FOR PEACE

MINUTES FROM MEETING   June 6, 2007

Attendance : Patty D. Schardt, Barbara Wickham, Steve Wickham,  Mark Roberts,  John Baideme, Janet Rothacker, Carol,Chris Lapinski.

 -Introductions

Past News/ Info for Group

- AOL e-mails are getting blocked. Barb is kindly resending separate e-mails to these people.

-Discussed the weekly vigil. Group will keep time to -5:00-6:00. We will spread out to 4 corners when we have enough people for 2 to each corner.

- Pot Luck at Shaker Meeting House with David Easter. There are now 7 local peace groups. All groups will meet the first Thurs. of the month at 33 Central(Social Justice Center). Past discussion was about strengths of each group and the need to share these( Working with students, elected officials, press coverage etc.)

June 20th- Documentary Film at the Spectrum - God Grew Tired Of Us: The Story of Lost Boys Of Sudan narrated by Nicole Kidman.Minimum $10 donation. Tickets available thru USCRI by calling 459-1790 or e-mailing acuscrialbany@gmail.com. One time showing. Film will be released in Sept.

Sat. June 23rd is world refugee day in Washington Park

John Amidon held an anti-nuclear forum at BNP on June 9th, Water First was shown on 6/11 at BNP Library.

Cafe Lena has a Peace Benefit the Sunday of Memorial Day

Cobleskill has a recruiting parade on Memorial Day weekend- Wings, Wheels and Tracks

T- Shirts

GNP is trying to get a design for us to use and for others to copy. Carol and Steve are trying to find a company that will accommodate our wants. BNP and Peace Action said we could use their bank accounts to help with the purchase. Steve came up with some great designs and the group chose one.

Marketing

- Steve will try to get a PDF flyer out so we can leaflet at local events and mailboxes.

-"When I Came Home" was shown in May. Michelle has done a wonderful job leading the discussions.June date is the 21st at 7 at Guilderland Library. Movie being shown is "The Secret". Discussion to follow. John B. will advertise for us in the Enterprise.Movie is one hour long and Guilderland will provide the projector.

-Patty would like us to have a presence in local High Schools and Colleges. Steve said 911 Group at SUNY is active but there are many apathetic students.Janet met last fall with the Alliance at GHS.

-Next meeting scheduled for July 11th at Presidential Meeting Room.
