Depleted Uranium
The Upper Hudson Peace Action firmly opposes the use of
radioactive wastes or other associated and dangerous radioactive materials
for deployment or integration into conventional weapons. Since 1945, the
United States has irradiated New Mexico, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Nevada, Utah,
most of the Midwest and East Coast, and the South Pacific, with fallout from
fission bombs, has irradiated California, Texas, Maryland, and Puerto Rico
with depleted uranium testing, and has dropped large amounts of radioactive
materials on Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
The military continues to irresponsibly and dangerously deploy nuclear
materials, by using depleted uranium to make bullets, bunker busters,
missiles, and other munitions.
To respond to this inhumanity, the Upper Hudson Peace
Action works closely with the ongoing ongoing campaign of the
Depleted Uranium Weapons Network to educate people on the
realities of depleted uranium use in American military operations.
